Spot On: ROSE (Korean ver.) by Jang Wooyoung (장우영)

It’s a beautiful day! Of course it’s not one without a flaw but still it’s beautiful and all about the groove! Wondering why? Well it all has something to do with the release of one of the finest, grooviest and possibly “greasiest” song I have ever heard in a while. I’m pumped and all hyped up which makes this day very beautiful.

I know there’s another why in there somewhere, and possibly a what but please let me try to express into words my intense excitement, my utmost amazement and my never ending admiration for the man – the one, the only, Jang Wooyoung of 2PM and his newly released song, the Korean version of ROSE. Right, now let me catch my breath.

For those who know, by that I mean fellow human beings whose into KPOP, the Japanese version of the same song was released a few months ago and since then I have been wondering: will there be a Korean version and when will it be released? My question was answered and the answer is exemplary and satisfactory at the same time.

First, let’s look at the special clip. I’ve seen it about 20 or so times since the release but let’s see it; one more won’t hurt:

Were you able to handle the awesomeness blooming right before your eyes? I wasn’t, I got sucked up in a vortex of emotions and the whole time I wish I could dance and that I have a lego bowtie. With that said, I wanna add that I really, really love this version and its MV very much. Most possibly, I love it more than I loved the Japanese version. It has this “It” factor and I’m going to try and break it down in a list because that’s the only way I know how:

  1. Musicality – I dunno if that’s the right term but let’s just say it is, shall we? By this I mean the meeting and blending of sounds from different musical instruments that at first glance you would think won’t be that harmonious but surprise, surprise, you’re wrong and it could make sense with proper arrangement; who would have thought? The feel that this song gives me is like that of September of Earth, Wind and Fire – of course less the trumpet and saxophone but it gives that feeling: get on your feet and let loose, get in to the beat and have fun.
  2. Lyrics – Since I am a big fan of symbolism and figure of speech, I absolutely love the lyrics, ab-so-lute-ly! I also love that it’s not just lyrics but a story all in all, that’s very inviting. Another reason for the reference to September of Earth, Wind and Fire is because both has this nonsensical lines (Badi-ya for September and Da Da Da Da Da Da for ROSE) in the lyrics but I don’t think it would be a good package without it, just saying, that is.
  3. Vocals – I love the smoothness of Wooyoung’s voice and the almost cheerleader type backup vocals at the chorus part, adds variety to the song. I know it sounds biased but I believe Wooyoung did a great job on this song, every note, pitch, it sounds wonderful to me.
  4. Choreography – this is another aspect that I really, really adored. I will never get tired of watching Jang Wooyoung dance. That’s a forgone conclusion since I’ve watched him dance live in Hong Kong and he’s a natural. Very light on his feet and mesmerizing. Although there’s a big difference with watching him dance live and on screen, I’d say they captured “some” aspect of his “natural fluidity” in this video.

Sooo, yes, it’s a beautiful day! I have this song in my head and my head is moving with the beat; good things really come to those who wait. ^^

Spot On: 미친거 아니야?(GO CRAZY!) by 2PM

It’s an awesome Wednesday! Aside from some discomfort and a reminder that I am not a robot, that I am a human being and a woman actually, today is an awesome day!  Why? Because finally, finally the wait for the craziest MV ever is over! Squeeeee! I don’t have any plans of hiding my excitement and glee; nope, I am not gonna hide it, ever!

I know just a few people know that I am a 2PM fan, like just a certain few because I’m a shy KPOP listener, or maybe. And those who know knows that I’ve been waiting for their comeback like crazy, like literally counting the days and checking the official YT account for any update whatsoever because I am WAITING for this. The wait is worth every minute and second of it.

I’ve seen this MV last night, coz like they said, the MV will be released on the 10th of September and it was. At exactly 12:00am KST (7:00pm GST) the MV was released for the world to view, in all its colorful and fun glory:

It is soooo awesome I passed out, and when I regain my senses I listened to it again then passed out; repeat 10, 20 and most probably more times. 2PM made an MV to go crazy for and I don’t have the right words to say how incredible the song and the MV are. I do, by the way, want to list what’s so awesome about the MV, here it is:

  1. The element of fun. I’m sure a lot will agree that fun is a necessity, it is a must have to make everything bearable, work, everyday life and love life, let’s include that though it’s a “Not Applicable” for me. I think the concept they adopt for this MV is “it’s the weekend, we are all burned out from our daily routine, let’s have some crazy fun time.” And believe it or not, in my 20s, I did that every once in a while.
  2. Easy to follow and fun choreography. I keep saying fun because watching this MV I really had so much fun, the choreography is really easy to follow that I was copying the motorcycle dance on my first listen. Like there’s nothing to it. And I’m not a good dancer, I just love trying.
  3. The multitude of colors. I’ve watched a lot of 2PM MV and so far this is the most colorful and I love it, I really do love it. They all managed to look really good in their colorful clothes, I bet only a few people can pull that off. Wooyoung’s outfit gave me a flashback of Secret Garden, Kim Joo-won’s track suit. Shining shimmering splendid! I so love blue!
  4. Portrayal of intoxication. I think Do Min-joon whenever I see someone floating with the moon on their back and to see six beautiful people do that, I might be intoxicated and so are they.
  5. Being themselves. I watched about all the Real 2PM vids and this MV shows the side of them they usually show when they sit together, just goofing off being young people. It’s cute.

Yeap, they went crazy; they just had a go at fun and came out looking oh so deliciously awesome. I’m thankful they drop the MV earlier, makes a good company while waiting for the album to be released. I’m happily camping and I might dance and go crazy while I’m at it.

Falling in Love With IU

Out of curiosity and since I’ve been listening to the song Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossom by High4 featuring IU, I’ve decided to check out IU’s songs on YouTube, I seem to be really loving that site lately anyways. Right, so I checking out IU’s songs prove to be an awesome idea; yes, it is an awesome idea. It’s an awesome idea to continue on this journey of immersing myself with all this goodness which is Kpop. I sound obsessed, I guess I am a bit, just a bit.

So, IU; hmmm.. The first song that I listened/watched and sealed my love for this adorable girl is this:

To say that I fell in love a few seconds of watching the MV is not an exaggeration on my part, I have a thing for girls playing the guitar being a frustrated guitar player myself and seeing her use the pluck strum technique, at the back of my head I know, I’m so into her already. Anyways, enough with being dreamy about IU and back to the MV; visually, well in all honesty, she is adorable, really cute. I like seeing her on screen. The story as projected in the MV though is a bit confusing from the feel that I am getting from the music itself so I mostly closed my eyes and feel every beat and her sweet melodious voice. I’m not saying that I do not like the concept of the MV, it’s just that the feel is that of a “love” love song and the MV’s concept has a guy being friend zoned and that’s sad.

Basing on the melody and music though, it’s a keeper. It gives this feel good feel like the world is painted pink, rosy with roses pink. Its cotton candy sweet, bone melting and smooth that leaves you almost weightless as a feather. I love how all the musical instruments come together and blended so well with IU’s voice, it’s just so lovely, makes me wanna fall in love or something similar to that.

And of course, the most important part for me, the lyrics: this seems to be a real trend, Friday in love. It’s not the first Friday song I’ve ever heard, The Cure has Friday I’m in Love and I happen to breathe that song not so long ago. The lyrics is wonderfully written, and the story I’m picturing with it is very far from the MV itself but it is all fine with me, since I would be listening to it more than I’ll be watching it anyways.

Ultimately, this song made it to my feel good playlist, something that I would listen to if I wanna feel that tingly feeling in my toes, or when I drink hot choco with marshmallows or  if I wanna feel in love. And I think I am in love with IU. This is another great find and I guess I won’t stop looking at all. I’m enjoying myself so much.
